South Trail Fire Protection and Rescue Service District is located in
south Fort Myers, Lee County,
Florida, between Tampa and Naples. Because the district is just a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico, hurricane
response training is important. In the winter months, the area is prone to dryness
and conditions conducive to brush fires. The District serves a community of approximately
60,000 residents in a 55 square
mile area with four fire stations, a paid staff of 85, and an operating budget of $14
million.
Responsibilities of South Trail Fire and Rescue include
fire, rescue, and emergency medical services; fire prevention; public education; and new
development plans review and inspections. In 2005, South Trail Fire and Rescue responded to
7,372
total alarms.
