Six Mile Cypress Wildfire . . .   

April 13 and 14, 2011 - C-shift and A-shift
Approximately 13 acres involved --
Wal-Mart to the west, Bus Barn to the east, Jamaica Bay to the south, and Six Mile Cypress Parkway to the north

On scene - 20:06; Controlled - 23:30; Cleared - :58

 

Fire was slow-moving to the southeast in heavy fuel with no easy access,
approximately 200 yards from the road.
--ST-5 assumed command.
--ST-6 was assigned staging and accountability.
--ST-2 was assigned Division A in Jamaica Bay to protect structures from embers and extinguish the fire from the south with multiple engines from STFD and South Lee Co. Fire Departments.
--Battalion 60 was assigned Division B on the eastside of the fire at the Bus Barn
with the South Strike Team of brush trucks working the fire off an accessible two-trail. 
--DOF Tractor 67 worked a line around the fire.
--The North Strike Team of engines stood by at Hammond Stadium and
 Area Command was established at EOC.
--The fire was contained and all strike teams were released.
--South Strike teams returned the following morning to mop up hot spots.

STFD Fire Marshal and DOF determined that the fire started in or around a homeless camp.
