Momma Duck A Shift
Posted On: Dec 28, 2020
Engine 61 was dispatched to Boy Scout Drive for a report of a momma duck blocking traffic and causing a fuss. They arrived to find a FMPD officer on scene attempting to open a sewer grate because he counted 12 ducklings in an underground sewer pipe. Momma duck was panicking, crossing the roadway several times trying to find her babies. Engine 61 opened the sewer grate and located the babies. Engine 61 crew used a 2.5” hand line to gently persuade the ducklings towards a firefighter who caught them and placed them in a basket. With the help of FMPD Officer Edwards and a civilian on scene, STFD reunited Momma and 13 babies at a nearby canal.
